Get outside!

What does it look like and feel like to be goo?

Feel like - uncomfortable, exciting, unsure, scared.

Look like - puddle, not productive, not normal.

I feel normal, therefore I assume I'm not doing it right.

In The Goo in You, I wrote that I wasn't sure what this period of time would look like and struggled to give it a title. I stuck with "living in the goo" for several months.

A month after assigning that title, I struggled with expectations of what I should be doing. How could I best "live in the goo"?

I assumed I would need to hole up in my house, not doing anything but reading, meditating, and journaling. Luckily, I had the time away from my career to do that, but I have a husband and two kids. I didn't want to curl up in a cocoon and ignore my family. Yet, I thought I wouldn't be taking full advantage of my opportunity if I were a fully functioning adult.

Goo is being open, listening, feeling, looking for what the universe is trying to tell me. Do I need to be "not normal" or be a puddle to do that? No, I need to be doing in order to see and feel things.

Since then, I have read a book by Gregg Levoy called "Callings: Finding and Following an Authentic Life." In this book, Gregg states that we need to "do a bit of hunting and gathering, drawing together those raw materials and listening to the various voices within us that are sure to have an opinion on anything as important, as interesting, as a calling." This means that, to keep moving forward in our development and to find something "we were meant to do in this world," we can't just sit around in a puddle or a cocoon. We must get outside, have new experiences, meet new people, and make connections between what we know, what we are learning, and what else exists in the world. Two additional books I've read convey the same message: connecting with the outside world and with people will be key to moving me forward into whatever it is that awaits me.

A good friend gifted me The Adventure Challenge book, which is featured in the attached video. It's a perfect way to encourage me to get out into the world.
